Applications Now Open For Restaurant and Bar Support Fund

Fund Seeks Both Corporate Partners and GoFundMe Donations

The Restaurant & Bar Support Fund --

that has been created to help support Ontario’s food and beverage establishments is now taking applications.

The private sector relief fund is a registered not-for-profit that is working to raise $5 million to assist a minimum of 1,000 Ontario restaurants and bars with reopening and recovering from the financial setbacks caused by the pandemic.

Tony Carvalho, chairman of the Fund’s Advisory Board says the Fund is available for hospitality establishments experiencing difficulties, “As of today, business owners can apply for our grant funding that we hope will help them get through this difficult time. The Fund pays a one-time grant of up to $5,000 so businesses can keep their doors open, keep staff employed, and keep smiles on their customers’ faces.”

Carvalho explains all money received is being distributed. Through 2021 the Fund is seeking donations from corporations and individuals. “We have a few corporate sponsors signed on and want to secure $3 million through partnerships. We also have a GoFundMe page where we’re asking people to chip in the cost of a night out at their favourite restaurant – and we hope to raise $2 million in this way.”

“I am confident the corporate sector and Ontarians will respond in this challenging time,” says Carvalho. “The employees and owners of restaurants, pubs and entertainment venues need our support now or we will not have these neighbourhood meeting places to go to when we come out of this pandemic.”
